Why $12.99/month?
Because it pays for itself before Wednesday. A family of 4 saving $150/week on groceries means the subscription costs less than 1% of the savings. We wanted a price that feels fair and makes the decision obvious.
$7,000 savings sounds too good to be true. Is it?
We get it - that's a big number. Here's the math: the USDA says a family of 4 spends $231/week on groceries. Hestia averages $89/week by using three mechanisms: deducting what's already in your pantry, turning leftovers into free meals, and finding cheaper prices across stores. That's $142/week in savings, or $7,100/year. Your first 2-3 weeks will cost more while your pantry builds up. By week 4, the compounding effect kicks in. What's NutriScore? What does "rescued" mean?
NutriScore is a letter grade (A through E) developed by French public health researchers that rates the nutritional quality of food. A = best, E = worst. It weighs fiber, protein, and fruit/veg content against sugar, saturated fat, and sodium. "Rescued" means Hestia found a way to use something you already have - a pantry item near expiry or leftovers from last night - instead of buying new. Every rescued item means less waste and less money spent.
How accurate are the prices?
We map 425,000+ real UPCs across major retailers. Prices come from store APIs where available and are supplemented by crowdsourced data from real Hestia shoppers. When exact prices aren't available, we show estimates marked with ~ and update them when you scan barcodes in-store. Over time, your local prices get more accurate as you shop.
What if I don't save that much?
Savings depend on your starting habits. If you already meal plan carefully, your savings will be smaller. If you frequently buy items you don't use or order takeout when you have food at home, your savings will be larger. The app shows your actual savings each week so you always know your real numbers. And your first month is free - you risk nothing.
